Train Derailment on the Bergen Line

The train derailment in Bergen last weekend has resulted in the closure of the Bergen Line for an indefinite period. Currently, there are no specific expectations for reopening.

As a substitute for trains, we have deployed buses on the route. However, delays may occur for mail, packages, and freight, for which we apologize to our customers.

Challenges with train equipment on the Nordlandsbanen

There are significant challenges with diesel locomotives on the Nordlandsbanen railway, which results in difficulties sending packages and freight to and from parts of Northern Norway and Southern Norway.

Train schedules are now set with shorter deadlines, making it challenging for us to plan alternative transportation.

During this period, there may be delays of several days for packages and goods between postal codes 6000-6699/7000-7999 and 8000-9499.

This situation may also impact the quality of transportation to and from other parts of Southern Norway, albeit to a lesser extent.

We apologize to our customers and are implementing measures to mitigate the quality issues.

Possible delay in delivery of Express next day during winterbreak week 8 (February 19-25) due to changes in the commercial flight schedule

During the period from February 19th to 25th, 2024, several changes have been made to the commercial flight schedules that affect the delivery of Express next day packages.

Express next day from Stavanger (postal codes 4000-4199 and 4300-4499) to large parts of Norway (postal codes 2100-2699, 2800-3999, 6000-6699, and 7000-9999) may experience later delivery deadlines than usual.

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause for our customers.

Extreme weather ‘Ingunn’ continues to wreak havoc, and a new storm is on the way.

There are still major challenges in transporting letters, packages, and goods to many parts of the country. In southern Norway, things are beginning to calm down somewhat, so the road connections between east and west look better over the next 24 hours. However, it is announced that the Bergen Line will be closed from midnight on Thursday afternoon. A new forecast is expected on Friday at 6:00 p.m. This means that there will be delays between Eastern Norway and Bergen over the next day. Elsewhere in southern Norway, conditions are improving, but delays and follow-up delays from earlier in the week should be expected.

Extreme weather ‘Ingunn’ continues to cause closed roads from Trøndelag and northward. In addition, there are challenges on some ferry connections and canceled flights. The railway through Sweden to Kiruna is also closed, and trains are standing further south in Sweden waiting for the stretch towards Kiruna to open. This means that internally in the northernmost counties, and between southern and northern Norway, delays for letters, packages, and goods must still be expected.

A new weather system is on its way to the north after ‘Ingunn’, so this will affect transport and distribution in many places also over the weekend and into next week.

We still apologize for the inconvenience this causes our customers.

Extreme weather ‘Ingunn’ causes delays in almost the entire country.

Extreme weather ‘Ingunn’, which is now making itself felt, will affect infrastructure and transport operations throughout the country tonight and tomorrow.

From Southwestern Norway to Finnmark, wind and precipitation will result in closed roads, restrictions on train traffic, as well as canceled ferries and flights. Our ability to transport and distribute letters, packages, and goods will be severely limited in large parts of the country. There is a red danger warning in Trøndelag, Helgeland, and all the way up to Lofoten. In addition, there is an orange danger warning for Møre, parts of Trøndelag, and Nordland. A yellow danger warning has been reported for large parts of Western Norway, Troms, and Finnmark.

In short, this means that delays must be expected throughout the country today and especially tomorrow. Some parts of Northern Norway are now experiencing a second wave of extreme weather this week, so there will be areas where hardly anything has been distributed all week.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the extreme weather to all our customers.

The storm continues to create challenges in the North.

Closed roads, canceled ferries and flights continue to cause problems in Northern Norway. It is particularly the two northernmost counties of Troms and Finnmark that still have the most difficult driving conditions and the worst weather. There will also be challenges with distribution and transport today. This applies to postal codes 9000-9299 and 9500-9999.

In Nordland North and southern parts of Troms, the worst weather has subsided, so it seems that distribution today should go smoothly to postal codes 8300-8599 and 9300-9499. Projections suggest that the road to Kiruna will open, so we can pick up and deliver packages and goods on the trains in Kiruna.

In Nordland South, the weather is not an obstacle to road transport, but the railway is closed. The Nordland Railway is closed due to flooding, which means that packages and goods to and from Southern Norway will be delayed. We do not yet know when the railway will open. Packages and goods between postal codes 0001-7999 and 8000-8299/8600-8999 will be delayed by at least one day.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause our customers.

Snow and wind create challenges for transport by car and train

Snow and wind create challenges for transportation by car and train. Snow and wind in Southern and Eastern Norway will cause delays in letters, packages, and goods to large parts of the country. Large amounts of precipitation are also forecasted for Thursday and Friday in Western Norway.

Driving conditions are very challenging in Southern and Eastern Norway, and we therefore expect delays on car routes this afternoon and evening. To a large extent, it will be on the routes Stavanger/Kristiansand - Oslo/Eastern Norway and internally in Eastern Norway.

The railway terminal at Alnabru, which is the central point for freight traffic by rail, also has major challenges due to snow in combination with strong winds. The terminal has been completely closed for a period today, and it is uncertain when it will reopen. A significant downsizing of the number of trains running today has therefore been announced, and we must also expect that the trains that do run will be delayed.

This means that letters, packages, and goods between Oslo/Eastern Norway and the rest of the country will be significantly delayed today. As Posten Bring AS largely uses trains where possible, there is a high risk of delays to the major cities (Stavanger, Bergen, and Trondheim) and Northern Norway. The weather continues on the West Coast tomorrow and Friday, so there will be weather-related challenges throughout the week that affect the quality of our products.

The backlog of today’s many canceled trains means that we do not expect a stable train production this week. Delays in car traffic today and throughout the week mean that there may be delays between all parts of the country and places this week.

We apologize for all the inconvenience this causes our customers.

Cancelled trains to and from Northern Norway

Due to extreme cold in Northern Sweden, trains between Oslo and Kiruna (both ways) are cancelled from today, 2.1.24, until Thursday, 5.1.24. This week, there will be very limited opportunities to send packages and goods between Southern Norway and large parts of Northern Norway. A lot of the mail-products and Business Pakcage Express are sent by air, and will not be affected by the train cancellations.

We are trying to send some via Nordlandsbanen and adding some extra trucks but delays of up to several days between regions should be expected. This will especially apply to the following postal codes:

  • 0001-5999, 6700-6999 to/from 8300-8599 and 9000-9999
  • 6000-6699, 7000-7999 to/from 9500-9999

We apologize for the challenges this poses to our customers and are trying to minimize the consequences as far as possible.

Snowfall in Southern Norway.

The snowfall continues in Southern Norway, and there is reduced accessibility in many places in Agder. Delays of letters, packages, and goods to and from postal codes 4500-4999 are expected throughout this week. Locally, conditions are very challenging, and for safety reasons, many transports are canceled from our terminal in Kristiansand.

Transport between Southwestern Norway and Eastern Norway may also be affected due to the snowfall along the Southern coast, and wind/snowdrifts on mountain passes such as E134 (Haukeli) and Rv7 (Hardanger).

We apologize for the inconvenience this causes our customers, but under such conditions we have in Southern Norway now, it is unavoidable that there will be delays."
